This life you have been given is an adventure, a call to expand your spiritual self, to create an experience that is at once personal and filled with growth if you can rise to the challenges. Even the most ordinary of lives can be transformed by events, or people in ways that might never have been foreseen.
The hero is the ordinary person, who, when he encounters an extraordinary circumstance,
rises to the occasion and acts in a heroic way.
Maybe you will never race into a burning building and pull the occupants to safety, but at some point along the path of life, you will have the opportunity to do something heroic. Maybe for yourself. Maybe for someone else. It is the perception that matters.
Each day that we are given is a gift. A gift of life. It is up to us to face that challenge and meet it, either by doing the same old same old, or maybe to take a chance, to expose ourselves to possible failure or success, if we can dare to take the risk.
As we start out our lives, learning the ways of the world, we are all helpless children. But at some point, we are pulled away from the safety of the familiar and called upon to take an adventure. Some will refuse the call, and stick with the routine path. In the path of the Hero's Journey, when called away, he must decide to move beyond his limitations.
Once the decision is made, the force of the Universe will back you up with a guide or mentor. Mentors may come in many forms: teachers, allies, friends, guardian spirits. Their role is to encourage you forward.
Once the idea is in play, the Hero will begin to face the challenges of his journey. He must commit to making a change and separate himself from all he has known. Think of a time, when you were asked to go beyond, to reach for something that did not feel attainable. Were you frightened$%: Bold$%: Doubtful$%:
And then, the Hero finds himself in the belly of the whale...into a whole new world of all that is alien and unpredictable. The Initiation has begun and the road of trials, tests and ordeals is challenging our Hero, to face his demons and do battle with his dragons.
At the lowest point of the Hero's struggle, he must die the symbolic death, be crucified or dismembered, symbolized by drowning or fighting the serpent. A complete submersion of his ego into the struggle to become whole.
The Hero meets the Goddess, facing his temptations with a new will forged from his struggles. Is this change a lasting one$%:
The Hero must atone to or be recognized by his Father in a move created to determine that he can move beyond his past, reconciled, before he can reach the cathartic moment of breaking out from his previous constraints or personal limitation. Only then can he return.
After having this amazing adventure, who would want to return to the world as we new it$%: Can't we keep flying high$%: But we must return with the gift of wisdom that we earned and find a way to share this gift.
Just as you must become the Master of the Material World and the Spiritual World, you must learn to live in both and accept the JOY that comes from this attainment: fully vested in the present moment.
Look at your life...have you begun your Hero's Journey$%: Are you waiting for something to pull you out of your routine$%: Are you willing to go beyond where you have gone before$%: It is never too late to start upon the path. Decide.
